Merit Manitoba delivers a variety of training programs designed to meet the needs of today's changing construction industry. The following programs are available to both Merit members and non-members.

Supervisor Training Program (STP)
The Merit Association's longest running and most popular training program, STP is designed for those in foreman/supervisory roles or those who are responsible for overseeing or directing the activity of others. This is an intensive course requiring 42 hours of classroom instruction plus on-the-job assignments. The classroom schedule is usually four Fridays / Saturdays over five weeks.

Successful completion of this program provides five credits toward the Gold Seal Certification. *

 

Construction Contracts and Contract Law

Course is designed to teach management, site supervisors and project managers all there is to know about construction contracts and contract law; liabilities and responsibilities of all parties to a contract; compiling and submitting proper extras and claims; Builders Liens and collection techniques and procedures; dispute resolution, and ways and means for leaders to avoid confliect with workers, owners, contractors, trades, and labour (including labour laws).

The course is 30 hours of classroom instruction plus on-the-job assignments. The classroom schedule is two Fridays / Saturdays over two weeks.

Successful completion of this program provides credits toward the Gold Seal Certification. *

 

Project Planning and Job Cost Control

Course is based on teaching managers and supervisors the complex task of planning a construction project in relation to costs and cost control, scheduling the use of labour, material, equipment, trades and organizing the construction process. Participants will learn the process of measuring, summarizing and recording project cost control functions and learn reliable methods of saving money on a project combined with methods now used for planning and cost control.

The course is 30 hours of classroom instruction plus on-the-job assignments. The classroom schedule is two Fridays / Saturdays over two weeks.

Successful completion of this program provides credits toward the Gold Seal Certification. *

 

* Gold Seal Certification - The Gold Seal Certification Program is a national program for construction Project Managers, Superintendents, Estimators, Owners' Project Managers, and Construction Safety Coordinators'.  Certification is based on the candidate's education and experience.  The Gold Seal Certificate was developed by the industry, for the industry, and is a voluntary certification program for the individual.  The Certificate signifies that the individual has attained a nationally recognized level of experience and competence in one of the above identified fields.
